Preparing for the Summer Session

Advance Reading

Case study on Saving 100,000 Lives

Please bring the reading with you to Stanford, as we will only have limited extra copies.

The remainder of the program’s readings will be in your binder, which will be available at registration on Monday afternoon.

Logistics

Lodging
Out-of-town participants will stay at the Crowne Plaza Cabana Hotel in Palo Alto near campus:

4290 El Camino Real
Palo Alto, CA 94306
(650) 857-0787

Meals
Breakfast and lunch will be provided at the location of the various sessions each day.  One group dinner will be provided on Monday night at the Crowne Plaza Cabana Hotel. You are on your own for dinner other nights. Vegetarian options will be available at all meals. If you have special dietary needs, please let us know by June 16, 2008.

Clothing
Dress for the program is Friday casual; this includes khakis, nice jeans, walking shorts, slacks or pants and T-shirts, polo shirts, open-necked shirts, blouses, sweatshirts, or sweaters. You may need a sweater or light jacket in the early morning and in the evening, and perhaps in the air-conditioned meeting rooms. Dress for the group dinner is also casual. You will have opportunities to walk around the campus, so please bring comfortable shoes, hats for the sun, and sunglasses.

Computers
LEADS Summer Session participants can use Stanford computers in Barnum Hall and in the CERAS building. These are all easily accessible and free of charge. All have Internet access.

Bringing Your Laptop
If you want to bring your own laptop, we will provide guest Internet access for you during the week you are here. This access will be available in all Stanford buildings. Please respect the learning time in the sessions themselves, and do not use computers to check email or do other work during sessions.

Cell Phones
We will ask you to keep cell phones and pagers turned off or on vibrate during sessions.  Please use the schedule below to help you know when break times and free times are available for cell phone usage.

  • Parking at Stanford
Parking is very limited on the Stanford campus, especially with parking lot construction going on. Visitor parking is available, but not easy to find. We will provide bus transportation daily between the Crowne Plaza Cabana and the Stanford campus, so driving to campus is not necessary.
